The Australian High Commission Islamabad has a temporary employment register, which is for applicants who wish to register a general expression of interest in filling temporary vacancies that may arise within the High Commission
The Australian High Commission may use the register to access suitably skilled and experienced individuals for short term employment opportunities when staff are required at short notice. Most vacancies are full-time but less than 6 months in length. Types of temporary vacancies include administrative assistant, corporate support, and driver positions.
Your application will be considered when temporary vacancies arise, and decisions are based on suitability and availability. Start dates for all temporary vacancies are subject to satisfactory background checks being completed. Only those applicants with valid authorisation to work in Pakistan will be considered for the temporary register.
Terms of Employment
Temporary vacancies are a locally engaged staff position based at the Australian High Commission Islamabad. It is not an Australian Public Service position. The successful candidates will be engaged in full-time or part-time work arrangement. The successful candidate will be expected to commence as soon as possible. The successful candidate will be entitled to applicable conditions as per the locally engaged staff conditions of service.

2. Office Assistant

Summary of Key Functions
The Office Assistant is responsible for providing general clerical services in support of the program administration. This position reports to the Admin Officer
Roles and Responsibilities
- Act as Office Assistant under the direct supervision of the Admin Officer/Assistant.
- Maintain stocks of consumables item and track record of distribution, in keeping with organization policies and procedures, as assigned.
- Issue office stationary to project staff including maintenance of record. Maintain office files and keep updated record of stationary.
- Help to identify problems with the quality, appropriateness and usage of supplies and materials.
- Photocopy, collate, sort and distribute documents, as requested. Keep photocopy machines stocked with paper and supplied with toner.
- Ensure that office equipment and electronic appliances are maintained and used properly. Identify and report maintenance problems.
- Support finance in bank activities such as cheque deposits, cash withdrawals etc.
- Ensure and report repair and maintenance of office premises in timely manner.
- Assist in receiving /dispatching of goods and supplies from/to suppliers and other offices.
- Run errands, as directed / General Administration support.
- Maintain receiving and dispatch register.
- Maintains electronic copy of attendance sheet on daily basis and collates monthly staff in and out of office report and shares with all staff before end of each month
- Maintain up to date staff leave records.
- Assist supply chain in arrangement s of events/seminars/ workshop etc.
- Participate in professional training and development activities, as needed or requested.
- Perform any ad hoc duty assigned by the supervisor.
Qualification and Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in office administration or related field.
- Minimum bachelors; additional qualification as an Administrative assistant or Secretary will be a plus.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and office equipment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to speak Pashto / Dari is an added advantage.
- Ability to work under pressure situations.
